Can we cultivate yet?! - Noah

We are hoping that this is really it.... that spring is finally here. Although the weather is expected to be cool this week, it is supposed to be dry. The radio is always on the weather channel as we await a period of at least seven days without rain to allow us to start planting for the summer.
It is amazing what mother nature has wrought in the past six weeks of almost continuous rain. Since it has been too wet to cultivate anything since February everywhere wild grass and wildflowers are out of control. In the mandarin grove, vetch, a vine with a purple flower is growing up into many of the trees creating trellis upon trellis of purple blossoms. Waist- high mustard weeds are blooming a bright yellow, contrasting with deep pink of the peach blossoms. Moss, which is a rare sight in our area because we are normally so dry is growing in thick green carpets beneath the valley oaks. And Cache Creek, which is nothing but a stream in the summer, is now a powerful river, thirty feet wide of roaring water. I have never seen the grass on the surrounding hills so high, creating a deep green color everywhere. And now that the oak trees have sprung their new green leaves, the Capay Valley seems more like I imagine the rolling hills of Ireland should be.
As we wait for our water-logged soil to dry out we are still busy. Thaddeus just completed pouring cement for a new packing station this weekend which looks great, our packing crew is going to love it. And our youngest brother Freeman and his fiancee, Carol, have been working hard on a new store in the San Francisco Ferry Building. Larger than the other store, this 2,500 square foot space has a cold room, and juice bar. And guess what the name of the store is... Farm Fresh To You! Please join us for the grand opening party Sunday April 30th. Until then think thoughts of spring!

We'll plan on wrapping things up around noon due to the heat,
