| Trading Weather for Carrots - Thaddeus |
What beautiful summer weather we’ve been having! Everything is growing so quickly. The figs are on the tree and green, the early peaches are about the size of a marble and sweet pea flowers decorate the lowest forty acres of the farm. We picked the first few flats of strawberries last week and the entire farm is glazed with the sweet smell of the citrus blossoms. What an amazing time of the year – so much happening and so much to look forward to.
Chris and crew are busy getting all the transplants from Grandpa Frank’s greenhouse into the ground. Our first tomato planting, peppers, eggplant, melons and summer squash are in the ground. Now we are busy getting them water – what a job. It has all been made a little easier by the fact that the Yolo County Flood Control has put water into the irrigation canal. Our job has been to get the pumps set up to suck the water out of the canal and the irrigation pipe and sprinklers set up to get the water to all the plants.
This weekend we had a family workday getting the garden ready for Freeman and Carol’s wedding, which is quickly approaching. My job has been to put in a new trellis for the grapes – it is coming along quite nicely. The lawn that Freeman planted last fall got weeded and mowed for the first time and it looks great. There is still a To Do list before the big day but I think everything will come together nicely.

Carrot Note: This will be the last set of Nantes Carrots from our farm for the year. You will notice that this bunch may have a few carrots that are woody. This is caused by the hot days and is the reason we need to stop shipping them. Stick around, we will have them just as soon as the weather cools down next fall!

Customer Work Day Update
Our next "work day" in the city will be held on Sunday, April 30th. Join us for the Grand Opening of our new retail location in the SF Ferry Building!
Festivities begin at 3pm.

reserve space for you, family and friends.
Plan on
arriving at the farm early in the morning, as close to 8am
as possible, and bringing a lunch
to enjoy out in the orchard.
We'll plan on wrapping things up around noon due to the heat,
and you'll be free to relax in the shade of the trees and
have lunch afterward.
