It has been so hot on the farm. The kind of hot that makes me walk around complaining about how hot it is to anyone in hopes that someone will hear what I am saying and make the weather better! Last week we had three days of over 110 degrees and the nights never cooled down to below 85. I get my inability to handle the heat from my grandmother - we have great fun talking about the fact that it is too hot.
Our tomatoes are coming! This week you are receiving slicing tomatoes and cherry tomatoes - next week the heirloom tomatoes may be ripe enough to put in the boxes as well. The melons are getting very close to being ready also - we harvested a handful of them for the markets this weekend.
There was a very pretty sunset the other night. The purple and pink colors behind the rolling hills and oak trees made me realize that the different styles of sunsets are seasonal. The summer colors tend to be warmer and a bit more faded. The fall sunsets have rich colors that are more crisply defined next to each other. I guess there is also the possibility that my perception of the sunset is based on how I feel at the time - hot and worn or cool and crisp. Regardless, it is always a treat to watch the sky change colors for that small section of the day.
We are having the Slow Food Heirloom Tomato tasting at the farm this Saturday. If you would like to join us please get tickets at www.slowfoodyolo.org. There will be a formal tasting of five different varieties of heirloom tomatoes followed by a casual dinner. It would be a great excuse to get out to the country for an evening. While the days are too hot, the evenings are great. Hope to see you there.

Farm Tour Update
Saturday, August 19th we will be opening the farm up for a tour. Mark your calendars, tell your friends and be ready for the heat. This event is exclusively for our Farm Fresh to You customers, their family and friends. A tour of the farm will start at 9:30am. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy the shade of our yard in the afternoon. We will provide fresh tomatoes to add to your sandwiches and salads, drinks and fresh fruit snacks.

Plan on arriving at the farm early in the morning, as close to 8am as possible. There will be actvities and walks planned for the whole family.
