Heart Attack - Thaddeus |
Last week there was a scare on the farm. Jose Montes (we have always called him Cuco) had a heart attack on Monday morning while preparing to pack the day's Farm Fresh to You boxes. Jose and Lala (his wife) have been the packers of the Farm Fresh to You boxes since my mother, Kathleen, started the service in 1992.
Chris was walking through the packing shed and Lala told him that Jose wasn't feeling to well. Chris took a look at Jose and said that he "looked green." Asking Jose how he felt revealed that his chest hurt and that there was shooting pain down his left arm. Chris knew those were the signs of a heart attack and promptly called 911.
The Esparto Fire Department was on the scene is less than 10 minutes, followed by the ambulance from Woodland. Jose was put on a stretcher and Lala occupied him in the ambulance for the ride to the Emergency Room in Woodland. I do not know the details, but the EKG in Woodland confirmed that he had had a heart attack. He was transferred to a hospital in Sacramento where a stint was put into his heart to bypass a bad section of an artery (I could be wrong, but that is what I have gathered).
He is now in stable condition and resting in his home in Esparto. The doctor is suggesting at least a month of getting better. Everyone on the farm was very concerned about his condition and we are relieved that he is home and recovering. It is humbling to realize how a routine Monday morning can turn into a life altering experience for one person while reminding everyone in his presence just how fragile life is.
