Founded in a 450-square-foot shop in Kensington/Berkeley, CA in 1984, Semifreddi’s is dedicated to handcrafting exceptional bread and pastries. What began as a dream shared by Tom Franier, his sister Barbara Rose and her husband Mike has grown into a beloved Bay Area institution with a legacy of quality, consistency, and community. Every day, their team hand-shapes and bakes over 75 varieties of bread and pastry with unwavering attention to detail.
Many team members have been with the bakery for over a decade, and the company’s culture of care and pride extends from its staff to its customers and community partners. The bakery supplies small businesses and restaurants throughout the Bay Area and supports more than 200 local organizations through donations of time, product, and funds.
Today, Semifreddi’s is led by longtime team members Mike Meyers and Cary Weigle, hand-picked by the founders to carry on the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship, community, and family. With deep local roots and a passion for perfection, Semifreddi’s continues to grow—one loaf, one bite, one day at a time.
