About the producer
Bunnies by the Bay began on Fidalgo Island, Wash., where Krystal and Suzanne grew up among tulip fields and fishing families. In 1983, their town lost fourteen men and two crab boats in the Bering Sea. Their father, uncle, cousin, and childhood friends were among them. In the months that followed, their grandmother, a seamstress they called Gram, gathered the sisters into her sewing circle and told them stories about the bunnies who lived in her garden. She taught them to sew and mend.
They have been making them since 1986, still on Fidalgo, out of a small workshop in Anacortes. The business is women owned and led today by four sisters. Everything is made from soft fabrics and designed with safety in mind. If a well-loved friend gets damaged or goes missing, they will help repair or replace it. Gram believed that anything could be mended. They still do.
