A diversified family farm producing pastured meats and certified organic olive oil. They farm in the beautiful Capay Valley and have grazing land in the Sierra Foothills near the base of Yosemite National Park. The family has been farming in the Central Valley since emigrating from the Azores in the 1960's, buying their own farmland in 1974 after 15 years of milking cows for other people. The third generation (Casa Rosa Farms) has been certified organic since 2009.
Their certified organic extra virgin olive oil is produced using sustainable water wise methods and by selecting cultivars for taste and high quality. They believe it is possible to achieve production and profitability while conserving our natural resources and improving our soil.
The decision to grow organically is related directly to their concerns for the environment, but it is also because they believe it is the right choice for their family farm. They believe that crops raised organically are better for you and better for their land. In addition, as a diversified farm, which includes animal grazing, hay and forage crops and several types of orchard crops, they encourage habitat for insect predators by planting native plant hedgerows and creating sanctuaries for wildlife.
Their primary operation is permanent pasture, olive trees and a variety of fruit and nut trees including navel oranges, almonds, pears, quince, and pomegranates. They also have 20 acres of Arbosana and Koroneiki olive varietals and steward one of the oldest commercial olive groves in California which was planted in the 1840′s. Casa Rosa breeds California Red Sheep for meat and wool and Limousin/Angus (Lim-Flex) cattle which are bred on 300 acres of range ground and then pasture finished through the spring and summer on certified organic alfalfa.
Their meats are 100% grass fed and their poultry is fed only on certified organic feed and pasture. All meats are GMO free, raised without the use of antibiotics or growth hormones.
