About the producer
In 1973, Dorothy Everett turned a dream into reality when she opened Everett & Jones Barbeque in Oakland, Calif. Born in rural Alabama, Dorothy brought her family to California in 1952 seeking new opportunities. Her experience tending a smoke pit part-time sparked her passion for authentic barbecue.
With her eight daughters, one son, and son-in-law by her side, Dorothy built her business on family values and community spirit. The family fanned out through Oakland neighborhoods, sharing fliers and free samples that won hearts one bite at a time. Dorothy's vision of creating something lasting for her children has blossomed into a thriving Bay Area staple, with multiple generations now carrying forward her legacy of exceptional barbecue that has been declared among the nation's finest.
