Our happy hens are humanely raised outdoors by our farm, under the brand, Che). By day, they roam in orchards and on pasture, foraging for bugs & worms, dust bathing, napping and scurrying about in the fresh air. When the sun goes down they walk themselves into a chicken tractor for the night – they are never cooped up in small cages. Every few days they are moved to a fresh piece of pasture. Each acre of pasture is home to 180 hens. We don’t trim their beaks, don’t clip their wings, and our girls are never forced to molt. We don’t use antibiotics or hormones, either. In addition to natural foraging, the hens are offered organic fruit and veggie leftovers from the farm and their diet is supplemented with feed. While the feed is not certified organic, it is domestically grown, and includes natural supplements like crumbled oyster shells for added calcium. The natural grazing makes for dark orange yolks that are rich in flavor. Egg size may vary, but each egg carton will contain either all medium or all large-sized eggs. Not certified organic.

Bar Ale supplies the feed, which is non-organic, but certified by California Department of Food & Agriculture to be free of herbicide or pesticide residue. This feed does contain soy. It is made available to the hens for them to eat as much as they want (inside or outside the chicken trailer). Capay Organic raises alfalfa which is irrigated thru the summer to keep green and growing. This pasture is either certified organic or in transition to becoming organic, it is never treated with non-organic materials. They also provide seasonal, certified organic, produce cull to the hens on an as-available basis.

Happy hens make healthy eggs. Che’s Free Flying Eggs raises chickens outdoors in the fields, bringing humanely produced, delicious, nutritious eggs from the farm to your table. The hens live in pastures or orchards with plenty of space to roam. Che’s Eggs keeps 180 hens per acre, which gives the girls about 240 square feet each. The hens come and go from their coops, foraging on grass and bugs during the day and spending the nights inside. Natural grazing makes for dark orange yolks that are rich in flavor and nutrient-dense. Che’s Eggs supplements the hens’ diet with feed that is not certified organic, but is domestically-grown and, much to their happiness, Che’s also offers the hens organic fruits and veggies from the family farm.
